Quality like a tradition, wine like an art
The company revives the art of winemaking in an area with unique climatic conditions, where wine industry flourished in ancient times - at the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, in the Savalan valley. This is the most beautiful place of the region, the heart of the Gabala region can rightfully be considered the cradle of winemaking.
To revive the art of winemaking at the foothills of the Great Caucasus in Gabala Region of Azerbaijan, ASPI AGRO has been founded with a brand name ASPI Winery, the main direction of which is cultivation and production of high quality wines. Climatic conditions at the foothills of the Greater Caucasus are almost the same as those in the best terroirs in the South of Italy.
Savalan Valley is situated at the height of 400 meters above the sea level and is surrounded by river; the quantity of rainfall, sunny days and the average annual temperature are ideally balanced here.
The plots of land in the Savalan valley of Gabala region were thoroughly analyzed by Italian experts headed by Professor Eugenio Sartori; soil samples analysis was executed in the laboratories of Italy. Based on results of the research, the most suitable kinds of grapes were selected and delivered by Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo, a world leader in the seedling production. Professor Eugenio Sartori, director of Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo, visited the new vineyards and according to his opinion, the quality of grown grapes in the Savalan Valley can be higher than that of the same kinds cultivated in Europe. According to Mr. Sartori’s recommendations new and rare kinds of grapes (Alicante Bouschet, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Grenache) were selected and planted on the territory of 66ha.

The first grapes were harvested from the vineyards during August- October 2009. To create high quality wines ASPI Winery developed and constructed a plant with the state-of-the-art equipment from Della Toffola, a leading Italian company, which allows applying the most modern Italian technologies in the best traditions of Italian quality. Logo, label and package development was another significant stage for the Savalan brand. The main symbol for label design was the outline of the Sleeping Beauty, a legendary Gabala mountain which protects the area against wind. The labels are printed by Juliagraf, an Italian printing house, bottles are bought from well-known.
Eliza Vagnoni – oenologist-technologist. She graduated from University of Florence and participated in setting up of a large winery in Australia as an expert technologist. Ms. Vagnoni has a PhD in oenology.

The President of Russian Sommelier Association, Alexey Sidorov, visited the vineyards in January 2012, and a month later ASPI Winery presented its first vintage in Baku Restaurant in Moscow. To sum up the successes of 2012, in December ASPI Winery became the winner of the National Business Award in “wine production” nomination. Immediately after this during a meeting of Azerbaijani and Italian business circles ASPI Winery and Italian company Usque ad Finem – an importer of wines to Europe – signed a Memorandum of Cooperation under which Azerbaijani wines, and Savalan line in particular, will appear on the European.
In March of 2013, SAVALAN – ASPI Winery sponsored the Caspian Cup (Intellectual Games Tournament), providing all the 360 participants from various countries with SAVALAN wines. The winning teams have received special prizes – the bucket of wines and Azerbaijani sweets. In April of 2013, our wines were presented at the Vinitaly exhibition at Verona, Italy. During the exhibition the stand of the company was visited by more than 700 guests - the professionals of wine business, sommeliers and wine journalists.
